30 years MUSIC BAR RESTAURANT YUCATAN
The 2025/26 winter season will be YUCI's anniversary season!
On 15 December 1995, Roger and his business partner Daniela opened the Yucatan restaurant for the first time. Partners, restaurateurs, representatives of the community and the who's who of Engelberg were invited – today it would be called a networking aperitif.
An incredible amount has changed over the last 30 years. We like to look back, but we like to look forward even more. The past is the past, and today is today. That's why we're really looking forward to a winter filled with lots of parties, big and small. With lots of music and, hopefully, lots of wonderful encounters. There will be a party planner again this winter so that no highlight is forgotten. You can register for shipping here.
In the 1990s, YUCI was intended to be something like a Hard Rock Cafe in the mountains. Lots of food for little money. Entertainment. Music. Loud. Since the name ‘Yucatan’ was taken over from the previous operator, the cuisine was focused on TexMex food and steaks. Now it is a world food kitchen, with the best dishes from cuisines around the world. But the now legendary Yuci burger has remained, as have the Yuci spare ribs and nachos. As you like it! The menu now includes many vegetarian and some vegan dishes. In addition, the chefs let their creativity run wild on the ChefsPlayground menu with ever-changing, seasonal and regional ingredients.
Over the last 30 years, it's not just the food on offer that has changed, but also who and how. In the past, it was mainly junk food in large portions, served until late at night. This laid the foundation for a long, enjoyable evening. If a midnight snack was needed, that was taken care of too: chicken, tuna or roast beef sandwiches were extremely tasty – especially in the early hours of the morning! Today, things are more relaxed. Guests don't just eat, they enjoy a lovely evening with family and friends, and there's even a children's menu.
What seemed impossible 30 or even 20 years ago is now reality. Even at YUCI. That's why it's not like it used to be. Worse? Better? We don't judge, but we always have our finger on the pulse.
